I am the type that usually runs from poetry. I never understood it. I was always like "just say what you mean!". But THIS! Its raw, in your face and thought provoking. The style of writing puts you right in the middle of the work so you see, hear and feel exactly what the author is saying. Some of the poems are short stories waiting to happen. At the end you want to hear more from this author. More poems, stories, a book...anything! I can't wait until her next work is published!Product details

Hungover Poet edition by Natasha Ramsey Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Good poetry makes you feel. Great poetry, like this book, makes you feel and then makes you think. It stays with you. Days after you've read one of the poems in this book, a new thought about it will wash over you.
Natasha Ramsey is a spoken word poet. As I read her work, I imagine her speaking to me from a stage, her voice amplified through a microphone. She whispers, she shouts her truth with fiery passion. Her words are not meant to comfort, but are a call to action. Can you handle truth? This is powerful, brilliant writing from the real world, a message we all need to hear and to act on. Hungover Poet is one of the best books I have read.
This book left me reeling. Ramsey’s poems of love and anger and redemption explode from the page. Full of outrage, raw hurt and tender caresses, they command the reader’s attention and emotion.
Some poems are not as strong as others, but what fascinates me is the way they gather force as the book continues. In the middle sections, Ramsey takes on various personas—someone dying of AIDS, someone on death row—to explore even more intense experiences. And the poems in the last section are simply spectacular. Reading the book is like watching a poet find her voice.
Ramsey’s courage and honesty jump from every page. She is not afraid to take on the most controversial issues abortion, homosexuality, incest, abuse. Nor does she hesitate to draw us in to the most personal moments. I’ve sometimes found that spoken word poems lose some of their force when deprived of the poet’s performance. However, the poems in this collection, especially those in the final section, retain their passion. Ramsey invites us to experience the world fully, its joys and sorrows, and to rail with her against injustice.
Disclosure of Material Connection I received a digital copy of this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
A short read with everyday concerns and world issues that sticks in your head. Listening on bingenow.com brings it to life.
Natasha's work took my mind on a little trip to pure cleverness, seduction, quality and depth. I highly recommend her work. I'll be re-reading to see if I can pick up something I may have missed the first time around and because I thoroughly enjoyed the art.
I have been to a couple of functions where Natasha promoted her writing and also at a Book Fair in downtown Baltimore. Her style of writing is refreshing and leaves you guessing as to the real meaning of her words. I would recommend her book to a mature audience, who can appreciate her play on words.
I've been a fan of Natasha's work for a long time. I especially like that she is of Caribbean heritage. Her writing is filled with Caribbean fire and finesse. You will smile. You will be surprised. Most of all you will enjoy every word. This book is cleverly written by a brilliant artist. I highly recommend Natasha's "Hungover Poet"
